Mason Off Road to Unleash New TSCO Gen-2 TT at 30th Anniversary Vegas to Reno

Fresh off a second consecutive Baja 500 victory, Dave Mason Jr. and Cameron Steele reunite to debut Mason Off Road’s newest two-wheel-drive Trophy Truck in America’s longest off-road race

ENCINITAS, Calif. — Dave Mason Jr. and Cameron Steele are taking one of off-road racing’s hottest driver pairings from Baja to Nevada and bringing an all-new Trophy Truck with them.

After an 18-month run together that has produced victories, podiums and a growing partnership between Mason Off Road and Steele’s Desert Assassins, the duo will reunite August 14 for the 30th Anniversary Casey Folks Vegas to Reno. This time, they’ll take on more than 500 miles of Nevada desert in the competition debut of Mason Off Road’s newly developed TSCO Gen-2 two-wheel-drive Trophy Truck.

And for its 30th anniversary, Vegas to Reno is throwing everyone a curveball.

For the first time in the race’s history, the legendary point-to-point event will be run “The Other Way,” sending competitors south from the Reno area toward Las Vegas across roughly 500 miles of Nevada desert.

For Mason, it is exactly the kind of proving ground the new #65 was built for.

“Stacking legendary races and continuing to win is the goal,” said Mason. “You have 1,000 horsepower, the potential to run 150 miles an hour, and a truck built to hit three-foot holes at 100 mph. Who wouldn’t want to go battle for a Vegas to Reno win?”

The race will be a big step forward for the partners as they switch from Steele's Baja-proven and dominant Geiser TT to the Mason's TSCO platform. The TSCO two-wheel-drive platform, designed and built by legendary truck builder and racer, John Vance, represents the next step in a development program built around speed, simplicity, durability and the ability to survive the increasingly brutal pace of modern unlimited desert racing.

Longtime Desert Assassins leader Cameron Steele has chosen Mason Jr. as his Baja driving partner over the past 18 months, a combo that has quickly produced some impressive results. The pair first teamed together for the 2024 SCORE Baja 1000, finishing sixth. Since then, they have won the 2025 Baja 500, finished second at the 2025 Baja 1000, and returned to win the 2026 Baja 500.

Together, Mason and Steele have earned three podiums in Baja’s two marquee SCORE races, including two victories, and have quickly established themselves as a formidable Trophy Truck 2WD pairing.

“The Masons are the sharp end of the race-warrior spear in the current field of U.S.-based unlimited truck racing,” said Steele, a 23-year Trophy Truck veteran and 2018 Baja 1000 overall champion who fielded the Baja 500 winning truck in June. “The Masons make it fun and always bring a winning effort to every event.”

In every race the drivers have teamed up, they have relied on Yokohama's 40" GEOLANDAR racing tires to bring them to the finish.

Yokohama works closely with Mason Jr. and Steele as they review data and driver feedback between races to ensure the tires they produce continue to offer the most traction and best durability in the class.

While Steele has brought more than two decades of Trophy Truck experience to the partnership, the Mason Off Road and Desert Assassins crews have increasingly worked together behind the scenes. At Vegas to Reno, that collaboration continues under the engineering eye of Dave Mason Sr. and longtime Desert Assassins crew leader Cody Stuart.

For Mason Jr., 33, the effort also continues a family racing tradition now spanning four decades. His father, Dave Mason Sr., began racing off road in 1986 and passed that obsession to the next generation. Today, father and son remain deeply involved together in the engineering, development and competition side of Mason Off Road, with the new TSCO Gen-2 representing the latest evolution of that experience.

With approximately 500 miles of high-speed Nevada desert, rocks, dust, heat, mountain terrain and relentless punishment, America’s longest off-road race has always rewarded preparation as much as outright speed. Running the course in reverse for the first time adds another variable for every team in the field.

For Mason Off Road, that’s part of the appeal.

The goal isn’t simply to debut a new truck. It’s to debut it at the front.

Mason and Steele will take the green flag in the #65 TSCO Gen-2 Trophy Truck on Friday, August 14, as the 30th Anniversary Casey Folks Vegas to Reno heads south across Nevada.

After proving what they can do together in Baja, Vegas to Reno presents a new race, a new truck and a new challenge.

And they’re coming to Nevada to battle.
