After a multi-year hiatus from short course racing, Dave Mason Jr. will return to the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series this weekend for the famed Challenge Cup at Wild Horse Pass Raceway in Chandler (AZ). For the first time in his off-road career, Dave Jr. will enter the premier class of the series, piloting the eBay Motors Pro-2. The truck will be partnered with eBay Motors, one of the largest online automotive destinations, which has over 85 million parts available online.
Winning the first ever Trophy Kart race is how Dave Mason Jr. started his career in off-road. He advanced into the Pro-Buggy class, where he won races and was one of the most consistent podium finishers in the history of the division. The team plans to compete in the full Pro-2 schedule of the 2020 season. Renowned mechanic and accomplished racer Steve Barlow has been named Crew Chief for Mason.
“I remember racing trophy karts as a young kid and dreaming of one day racing a Pro-2. I stepped away from racing for a while to focus on my off track career, but the goal to race at the Pro-2 level has never left. I’m very blessed to have this opportunity,” expressed Dave Mason Jr. “I’m really excited about our partnership with eBay Motors. They are a great company and so beneficial to our racing industry, but they’re also a great group of people who love racing like us. I’m honored to represent them on and off the track for this event.”
“I’m also very fortunate to have Steve Barlow, Steve Reeder and such a great team of people around me,” added Dave Jr. “They haven’t placed any pressure on me. Our team is going into this race just looking to complete laps and gain experience. We want to gain data for the off-season that we can use as we go into 2020 with full force.”
