In only their second attempt at racing in the Unlimited Truck 2WD Class, Team Mason Off Road lands on the podium at the toughest race in the United States!
"This is a big achievement for us" said an elated Dave Mason Jr. "We are new to the big leagues of off road. When we stepped up to the trophy trucks we knew the competition would be the strongest we have seen, so it's awesome that we have found success like this so early in our program. This is great for Yokohama too. Their tires keep getting better and we proved how tough they are today!"

Success was not the word you would use to describe their first outing with the truck at the Parker 400 earlier this year. The team intended to use that event as a "warmup" for the MINT 400. "Before we went to Parker we had minimal time running the truck. We did some brief testing, but didn't know how it would react to different types of terrain" said Team Owner Dave Mason SR. "Handling, suspension, and engine characteristics were all variables that we hadn't had the chance to tune on yet. We just wanted to finish the race and learn where our baseline would be. Unfortunately, we didn't finish, but we didn't let that time on the course go to waste. We took a ton of data and feedback from Parker and used it to improve all aspects of the truck, including reliability."

Crew Chief Steve Reeder, and Lead Fabricator Evan Erdelyi worked diligently to make careful improvements to the truck. These subtle but numerous changes paid off in the MINT 400. "I felt much more comfortable the whole way at this race" said Mason Jr. "The course got rougher every lap and I knew I would need to keep the truck together. I was surprised with how many top teams dropped out on the first lap! We ran a pace that kept us in contention for the podium, but didn't beat up on it too much. There was a lot of dust so I had to be patient." That patience paid off as the truck suffered zero mechanical issues, and the tires held up to the relentless abuse of 1000 horsepower pounding them around 4 laps of the MINT 400 course.
